Promoting Cross-Cultural Competence & Cross-Cultural Skills

Lectures, Seminars and Coaching

We provide our consulting services through lectures, seminars, training sessions, and one-on-one coaching platforms. Our services contain combinable modules from which, depending on the interests of the participants, a curriculum can be designed.

The modules provide answers to questions related to living and working in a multi-cultural environment. They are:

Medical Tourism

Communicating Successfully with the Arab Patient

The increase in medical tourism is an economic driver not only in the United States and Germany, but worldwide, with total annual revenues expected to exceed USD 179 Billion by 2026. Patients from the Arab World who seek medical treatment abroad represent a significant percentage of the foreign patients traveling to the United States and Germany.

In order to continue attracting medical tourists and to make their stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible, it is important for health institutions not only to concentrate on the medical needs of their patients, but also to address expectations that go beyond medical care. An understanding of the cultural background and the many defining aspects that influence life and behavior of people from the Middle-East and the Arab World is required.

This module addresses the difficulties faced by those dealing with such patients and provides answers that help bridge the gap between the host’s and the visitor’s cultures.

Doing Business in the Middle East and the Arab World

Focus on the Arab World, Germany or the United States

This module includes an introduction to the Arab world, highlighting the region’s cultural, social and religious diversity. If requested, we can expand to offer country briefings and introductions to specific political and economic systems.

The module showcases an Arab’s patterns of doing business and explores the role of culture and religion as key driving factors that shape character and way of life. We cover the role of personal relationships and other culture-related behavioral norms, and reflect on culture-specific communication styles and typical verbal and non-verbal expressions.

We address the difficulties that expatriate families face when living in a predominantly Muslim society for the first time, and focus on the importance of cross-cultural training, highlighting the skills and tools that enable a conflict-free and successful transition to a Middle Eastern or Arab society.

Teamwork and Team Building

Cross-Cultural Competence, Teambuilding, and Conflict Management

In this module, we outline the challenges that team members face working in a multi-cultural working environment. We help them recognize the reasons for conflicts, and present options on how to solve them should they occur. We show how skills such as cross-cultural competence and conflict management are indispensable requirements to overcoming those difficulties and how to work successfully together as one team, capable of reaching a shared goal.

Upon completion of the training, participants will have improved their cross-cultural awareness and their own ability to work and engage effectively with colleagues from other cultures.

Negotiation and Crisis Management

A Case Study in Cross-Cultural Crisis Management and Negotiation Techniques

This module presents the various stages of a crisis scenario and has been developed based on a personal experience as a hostage in Yemen. It introduces tools and mechanisms needed to help solve a crisis and shows how to implement them to negotiate effectively in case of such an event.

Using the founder’s own experience as a practical case study, this module demonstrates how mechanisms of conflict management, negotiation, and cross-cultural competence, and an understanding of the Arab culture facilitated communication with the hostage-takers and led to a positive outcome.

Business Etiquette

Mastering the Skills of Communication with Partners from the Middle East and North Africa Region

Each culture is unique. The cultural background of a group or nation shapes its respective values, traditions and hence its behavior. A prerequisite to communicating and conducting business with individuals from the Middle-East and the Arab World, one must master the skills of understanding their cultures.

In our module ‘Business Etiquette & Business Behavior’, we acquaint participants with the uniqueness of the Arab culture and outline important guidelines, elements, and communication skills. We formulate key ‘Business Etiquette Do’ and Do Not’ rules that one must abide by when dealing with counterparts from the Middle East.
